Douz is known as the doorway to the Sahara, where the cultivated land gives way to the rolling dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental. Further south, the oasis of Ksar Ghilane offers palm groves and a natural hot spring at the desert's edge. Travelers ride camels and 4WDs deep into a landscape of sand, sky, and silence.
