Carthage in pictures.
Founded by Phoenician settlers and later rebuilt as a great Roman city, Carthage spreads across a Mediterranean hilltop in seaside suburbs of Tunis. Visitors walk among the vast Antonine Baths, the Punic ports, and Byrsa Hill, where layers of two ancient civilizations sit side by side. The site is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
