Founded in the 14th century, Khan el-Khalili is one of the oldest and most atmospheric markets in the Middle East, a warren of narrow lanes packed with copperware, spices, lanterns, and jewelry. Surrounded by the mosques and minarets of historic Islamic Cairo, the souk has been a center of trade and craft for over 600 years. Its coffeehouses and stalls still buzz late into the night.
