Isalo National Park

Known as the 'Colorado of Madagascar,' Isalo National Park is a breathtaking expanse of Jurassic-era sandstone formations, deeply carved by wind and water into rugged canyons and plateaus. This sacred landscape is the ancestral home of the Bara tribe, who use the cliff crevices as burial sites for their dead. Hiking through the park reveals a surprising variety of microclimates, from parched grasslands to lush, hidden oases where natural stone pools invite weary travelers for a swim. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot ring-tailed lemurs, Verreaux's sifakas, and several species of endemic birds within the canyons. The park is especially magical at sunset, when the 'Window of Isalo' frames the dying light across the ancient stone, turning the rock face into a glowing canvas of orange and red.
