Lamu Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best-preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa, continuously inhabited for over seven hundred years. Its narrow car-free lanes wind between coral-stone houses with intricately carved wooden doors, mosques and waterfront markets, where transport is still by donkey and dhow. The island offers a timeless blend of African, Arab and Indian Ocean trading cultures.
