Abuko Nature Reserve

Just inland from the coastal resorts, Abuko is Gambia's oldest protected reserve and a surprisingly dense slice of West African forest. Shaded trails lead past pools where crocodiles and monitor lizards lurk, while monkeys chatter overhead and hundreds of bird species fill the canopy. Its compact size makes it a perfect half-day immersion in tropical nature.
