Djémila

Djémila, the Roman city once known as Cuicul, occupies a spectacular ridge between two ravines roughly nine hundred metres above sea level. Its forums, temples, basilicas and triumphal arches show how Roman planners adapted classical design to rugged mountainous terrain. The site is renowned for its richly detailed mosaics, now displayed in an on-site museum, and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
