Jinja and the Source of the Nile in pictures.
At Jinja the Nile spills out of Lake Victoria and begins its 6,600-kilometre journey north to the Mediterranean, a spot long celebrated by explorers as the river's source. Today it is the adventure capital of East Africa, famed for white-water rafting, kayaking and bungee jumping over the river. Calmer boat cruises and sunset trips reveal the source point and its abundant birdlife.
