Near the entrance to Mole National Park, the Larabanga Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in West Africa, built in the distinctive Sudanese-Sahelian style of whitewashed mud and protruding timber buttresses. Its pyramidal towers and organic curves make it one of Ghana's most photographed buildings. Local tradition holds it dates back centuries, and an ancient Quran is said to be preserved within.
