The Lower Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia is one of the world's richest regions for cultural diversity, where peoples such as the Mursi, Hamar, Karo, and Banna maintain traditions of body adornment, scarification, and seasonal ceremony. The Mursi are famed for their lip plates, while the Hamar are known for their dramatic bull-jumping rites of passage. The region is also a UNESCO-listed area of major importance for the study of human evolution.
